Can't Do It Justice

It's been nine days.

Nine awesome days since I went to the roller derby.

Since the moment I walked out of the event, I have kept thinking how I need to blog about it. I need to tell people about how my already high expectations were kicked in the shins by an even greater reality. I want to tell you all about the hits. The crashes. The drama and anxiety that went along with watching "my team" fall way behind and then make a stunning comeback for a close win. I want to tell you about how grasping the seemingly difficult rules created a satisfying learning experience. (What?) I want to tell you about the movie I went to see after that made me pee my pants multiple times. (Actually, no, I don't want to tell you about that at all.) I want to tell you about the camaraderie of three good friends having a great night on the town. The death metal band playing next door. Fresh fruit slushies from Sonic. The names! I must tell you about the names!

But I can't do it justice.

Roller derby night was too awesome to be put into words.

Most of the time, life feels like this....

...but that makes it so much better when it is like this

Random Thoughts

First of all, I would like to apologize for my last post. I put all of those pictures on there with the intentions of adding some cute descriptions and stories, but it never materialized. I could add them now, but I think I will just leave things as is. It will teach me a lesson to never publish an unfinished post. I won't let that happen again (probably)...That post was intended to be part of a larger series called "Week of Concerts" as I was planning on attended three different concerts last week. Sadly, Week of Concerts turned into Week of Concert when Elton John and Billy Joel got sick and Dear and the Headlights cancelled. The one concert I did attend was amazing...My plans on graduating in May might be pushed back a few months as I am diligently laboring to fail my rhetoric class. It will probably now be a summer graduation, but who really knows at this point? Anything can happen...One of my worst feelings is when I show up to work at 7 a.m. and turn on ESPN to find The Sports Reporters is on. This show single handedly makes one of the most naturally exciting things (sports) boring. It is the equivilant of being a kid and hoping to watch Simpsons only to find that the President has taken over every channel. Heart breaking...Speaking of sports, watching Real Salt Lake win the championship last night on penalty kicks was pure joy. I've never seen them play before yet I was still jumping up and down yelling like I was their biggest fan. It has to rank as one of my best sports memories in the non-Jazz/Utes/49ers category. Congrats to them...Thanksgiving is next week. Best holiday out there in my book. Love it.

Come to Penn State!

This is a commercial for the Big Ten Network with all it's coaches in recruiting mode. The last scene is a flat-out gem.

Utes Game

Last Christmas, my parents awarded a year's worth of good behavior with season tickets to the University of Utah football games for me and my sister. Our seats are pretty high up there, but it's a great view, right? Right?

I've been going to these games every since I was five, which explains why I choose going to these games over the Utah State games here in Logan. Well, that and the fact that the Aggies stink.

Here is my cute little sister that I get to watch all the games with this year. She always happy and one of the most fun people to be around that I know. But I am the most proud that she bleeds red like I do. I still love her even though she sent us out on a wild goose chase, walking around for an hour looking for where she parked her car last night.

Here we are together, as I am looking really large and creepy.

The Utes beat Louisville 30-14.

Oakland Loves Journey

Yesterday, Marcus and I began our vacation to San Francisco. We stayed the night in Winnemucca and then drove into California. We stopped in Sacramento and ate at this amazing restaurant...

I had this week's special called the Zac Attack which has pretty much everything good you could put on a burger. 1/2 pound of meat, pastrami, swiss cheese, bacon, mushrooms, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and a secret sauce. The best part about it was that it was cheaper than standard hamburger Marcus got. Sucker.

When we got to the Bay Area, we hit up an A's game. We root, root, rooted for the home team and the won 2-1 over the Indians. There was not a lot of action, but we had fun nonetheless.

After the game, they put on a firework show. They got things going by playing "Lights" by Journey as they shut down the stadium lights. When the song started people went crazy and sang it at the top of their lungs. During the fireworks, instead of the typical patriotic mix, they played the best of karaoke. We heard "Friends in Low Places", "Sweet Caroline" and "Livin' On A Prayer". It didn't change my opinion on fireworks, but it was fun to get a change in set list. Of course to close things out, Oakland pressed the Journey button again and blasted "Don't Stop Believing". Again the crowd went wild. You stay classy, Oakland.

Well, This Doesn't Happen Every Week

Niners win. Even better, they beat the defending NFC champs in their own stadium. I hope the good vibes carry over into next week. I could get used to this again.

An Odd Occurence

Today has been a great day at work so far. Working at a hotel desk, I am able to enjoy the conveniences of Internet (helping me survive not having a computer for the last billion years), doing homework (psh-yeah right!), and TV during the slow periods of my shift. Today I have been reveling in the glory of college football. I have missed it so much and I could care less if I am watching Tulsa vs. Tulane or Syracuse vs. Minnesota, it is all beautiful to me. To complement this glorious occasion, I decided to eat the apple I had brought as a mid-morning snack. As I sunk my teeth into it's crisp, green flesh, I smelled a smell. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was or where it was coming from. I smelled my pits. No dice. I smelled our freezer and microwave. No dice. Then I smelled my apple. Dice. It didn't smell rotten or dirty so I just kept eating away. A few more chomps, until I realized what the smell was. My apple smelled like a baby. That's right, a baby. Any you know what else? The apple began to taste like a baby too. And I liked it. Ok, ok, ok, ok, I am joking around about that part. It tasted like an apple. The whole experience reminded me of Wayside School when the teacher starts turning kids into apples. Did I eat one of their kids? Anyone know of any logical reasoning behind all this madness? Because I have a whole bag of those baby apples sitting on my kitchen counter.

Leprechaun Dance

School started on Monday and it is as painful as I remember it being last year. There are a few upsides I suppose; seeing some of my technical writing buddies, chilling out on the Quad, etc. But, for the most part attending class makes me want to light myself on fire and run through endless shards of bee-covered glass. Luckily my cereal box of doom is not without a salvatory toy at the bottom. I have a few things I am giddy as a goat about. In no particular order, here they are:

  • Football season!- OK, this one may be an a particular order. Next Thursday, the real football season kicks off as the University of Utah hosts Utah State. I will be in attendance and if you do not know who I am cheering for then you do not know me as well as you think you do (Here is a hint: Not Utah State). As much as I love the other sports of the world, football is different. I don't know what it is, but it is different and I can't wait to spend every Saturday and Sunday (and Monday, some Thursdays, and the occasional Friday) watching it.
  • Football season! Pt. 2- As part of the kickoff festivities, my buddy Marcus and I will be traveling to San Francisco to attend the 49er's home opener against the Seattle Seahawks. We really splurged to get decent seats (Ninth row baby!) which basically means that Mr. Cody will not be able to afford vacations like this for a long, long time. (PS- If somehow under God's will I have a computer by that time, there will be blog! Oh yes, there will be blog.)
  • Fantasy football!- Haha. This is not a joke. But yeah, I will stop with the football stuff now. (Go C.Titty Brigade!)
  • How I Met Your Mother season 5 premiere (Sept. 21 on CBS)- It's going to be....
  • Supernatural season 5 premiere (Sept. 10 on the CW)- If you are familiar with this show you might have heard it is infamous for the crazed female fans of it's two hunky male leads. This is not why I watch the show, I swear. When my friends explained the show to me they said it was about "two hot young brothers who drive around the country in an Impala hunting demons". I laughed, then I sat down and watched and episode, and then another, and you get the story. I was hooked. Let me count the ways that this show is awesome. (1) Great storyline. (2) Always funny and clever. (3) Features tons of classic rock. (4) One time, I was watching it at night and I got so freaked out I had to turn on every light in the house. (5) Tons of action. (6) Impromptu lip-syncing. (7) Did I mention they are killing demons? So that is seven reasons I love the show right there and I promise it's not because I think the guys are hot.
  • The Sounds & Foxy Shazaam on Oct. 30.
  • Passion Pit on Oct. 7.
  • Dirty Projectors on Nov. 7.
  • The Australian Pink Floyd Show on Sept. 16.
  • My sister gets home from her mission on October 20th or something like that!
  • Picking flowers in Sardine Canyon on breezy fall mornings.
  • Listening to the Best of The Beach Boys the first day it snows in Logan (I will not even joke around and make a prediction on when that will be).
  • Lighting myself on fire and running through shards of bee-covered glass the first time I go to school and realize I forgot to write a paper.

So that is what I am excited about in my near future? Are you excited for me to blog about it? Oh, by the way, the title is what all of this stuff makes me want to do.

Ugh.

Why are you doing this to us? Please just go away and leave us all alone, Brett. I hate being an NFL fan today.
